Mrs Smith's Cottage was built in the mid nineteenth century.
It is a very simple early Victorian brick built cottage.
The only modern innovations are an inside toilet, cold water
tap and electricity. The range, the heart of the house,
was in daily use for cooking and heating until the mid 1990's.
The only access to the bedrooms is by a simple ladder.
The Cottage is named after its last resident, Mrs Smith, who lived
there happily and independently until 1995, when she was 102
years old. When Mrs Smith died there was strong concern to see
the cottage kept as 'something special' for the village.
The Cottage was granted official Museum Status in March 2000. It
is open throughout the spring, summer and autumn, and staffed
solely by volunteers.
